*New Proposed Charter to appear on November Ballot*

On August 4, the Mayor and Common Council, with a 6 to 1 vote, approved moving forward with a special municipal election on a new proposed city charter. The special election will be consolidated with the November 8, 2016 statewide general election conducted by the County of San Bernardino.

Computer Lab Upgrade at San Bernardino Public Library

New computers

Some 24 new computers offering Internet access are now available for free public usage at the Cosand Computer Learning Center in the Norman Feldheym Central Library of the San Bernardino Public Library at 555 W. Sixth St. San Bernardino.

National Banned Books Week is September 25 through October 1, 2016. Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship.
